On Thursday, March 12th I finally got the approval from my office to work from home because of the COVID-19 pandemic that has suddenly taken over the world and everything that encompasses it. If you told me in March 2019 that in March 2020 I would have to suddenly pack a bag and flee the city because of a massive pandemic, I literally would have rolled my eyes and laughed at you. After feeling like my office made us work from home later than other businesses I was filled with anxiety and uncertainty for what was to come. I ran (actually ran...) home and packed my shit, ran the dishwasher, emptied the trash, and made my bed. As I was in my Uber on my way to Grand Central I felt like an actual spy running to get out of a city before it was shut down. Once I boarded the train and doused my hands in Purell, I naively thought that I'd probably be back in a couple of weeks...
Haiiiii....I've been at my parent's house in Connecticut for 3 weeks. I've only lived on my own for about a year and a half, but man, jumping back into family life in a 3-bedroom apartment is quite something. Don't get me wrong, I am probably one of the most family oriented people you'd ever have the honor of meeting, but it's hard as an adult to suddenly have 3 new roommates that happen to be your parents and 7-year-old sister.
My parents decided (7 days after I moved out) to convert my room into my younger sister's new room. Did anyone else feel slightly hurt by this when moving out? My sister's old room which is now the "den" has been labeled as a place where I shouldn't sleep because the pullout couch is, "not very comfortable." So, my current bed is the bottom bunk of my sister's bed. Sounds like the 4 Seasons, amiright? It's definitely a different feel compared to my minimalistic designed room in the city. While it's been a bit tricky to get back into the swing of things here in the Loop household, I'm extremely luckily and grateful to have family so close by and a comfortable and safe home to stay in during this pandemic. I know that many people that live in Manhattan do not have the option to do so and I pray that everyone is keeping safe and as healthy as possible.
Each day I've been here the news has been on pretty consistently, because of course, we must be informed and stay as educated as possible. However, I do try to limit my news time because I am trying to keep as positive as I can. I've been able to spend a lot of quality time with the parents and little sister...you learn a lot about people when you are cooped up all day together. With not much insight as to when I will return back to work, I will be camped out here on the bottom bunk.
Stay safe, stay home, and wash those damn hands!
Have any of you guys fled to a different place because of COVID-19? Drop a comment, I would love to hear!
