It's Been A While!

Oh hey, remember me?

Over the last couple of months my life has taken some pretty cool, new, and unpredicted turns. While being swept away into a new lifestyle and back into the working world I haven't had the time to write and keep you all Looped In. And if I am being super honest, I haven't felt truly inspired or in the right headspace to write...I've just taken these past several weeks to care for myself and focus on what is right in front of me.

But, I've missed this space. During quarantine Looped In was born and became a passion project of mine and it really opened my eyes to many areas of my life that have made me happy again.

In case you've been wondering what I've been up to, here's the scoop:

1. I have officially moved back to Connecticut.

Yep. My New York City years have ended. Or at least for now they have?

As I've written about previously, Covid-19 sent me through some loops *no pun intended*. I was furloughed from my job in March, ended up quarantining with my family in Connecticut, and then ended up having to break my apartment lease in the city because the rent was too much to handle with no income.

When I moved out of my city apartment in June I thought that maybe moving back to Connecticut full time could be a great fresh start for me. I always knew that I would be back here at some point, I just figured it would be a couple of years from now. However, I've realized over the past few months how much I enjoy being close to my friends and family members. I also appreciate the *slightly* slower pace of life out in the suburbs; it's a lot less overwhelming and hectic.

The tricky part about making the decision to stay here permanently was figuring out what I would do for work. Even though I knew I would most likely be working from home for who knows how long (if I ever did go back to work), I knew I wasn't completely thrilled to commute into the city everyday. However, the industry I have been working in for the past five years doesn't really exist in Stamford, CT. Since June I've been through a rollercoaster of brainstorming what type of profession I could have for myself here...which could mean starting from zero again.

2. I am a teacher!

I know, right!?

I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, so I am finally putting that hard earned degree to good use. Since graduating from school I've been asked many times if I ever thought about getting back into teaching, and honestly, I've always said, "no". I thought that my personality changed and I was a bit more impatient, rough around the edges and just enjoyed working with adults at all times. While all of those things were definitely true, I've always been a natural around children...being a teacher was all I had ever wanted to do since I was very young.

Since I was furloughed I had been on the job hunt. And since moving back to CT permanently in June, I had been specifically on the lookout for a job here in the Stamford area. I had no idea what I wanted to do. I was basically applying to just about anything that included health insurance and benefits...even if I had no experience or if the pay was lower than what I was making previously. Executive assistant roles, gyms, clothing stores, producer positions, etc. As I was searching I happened to see a teacher position open for a school here in town. I didn't think I would get a reply since my resume doesn't show anything regarding children over the past few years...but I somehow connected myself and was hired about a week later.

I am a teacher again!

I am teaching three and four year olds...and I know what a lot of you may be thinking..."Oh, so you basically just play with the kids all day." Nope. There's a lot more to it. Most people do not understand how important these early years are developmentally. A human's earliest years in school are the most crucial when it comes to developing social, emotional, and cognitive skills. Skills that every person needs to get through life. Well, I help to make that happen for my students everyday! In no world did I think I would be back in a classroom setting, but life works in very mysterious ways and I am actually very proud and happy with where life is heading right now.

3. I own a Prius.

Mhm...this just keeps getting better right?

Obviously, there is no subway here. I needed a car. So I bought my very own Toyota Prius! This baby is 10 years old but in pretty awesome shape. I have leased a couple of cars at previous times, but I have never owned a car. Lots of extra things go into owning a car that I didn't know about. Registering, insurance quotes, paying for new tires, and other small things...but I am learning!

When living in the suburbs with a job and everyday errands to run, a car is an essential. Earlier this year I was borrowing my parent's car for my daily tasks but the scheduling started to become not so great so it was time for me to bite the bullet and get my own wheels. A Prius is definitely not my first choice (looks wise), but it fits within my budget and I am also saving so much gas. In turn it also helps to keep the globe just a teensy bit cleaner... I'm doing my part here! I've named her Pixie the Prius (sometimes I call her "Poopsie" in a British accent).

So there you have it! My life has done a swift 360 degree turn since March of 2020. I certainly never expected things to be going the way that they are but I am extremely grateful. I understand that many people are still jobless because of this pandemic and the unemployment rates can keep increasing as the year goes on. I am very thankful to have found a job and have a place to live along with a loving family. You never know what life has in store for you, and I think this year has proved that to just about everyone. I am here for the ride and am very excited to begin this new chapter of me.

As for LoopedIn, we are taking things slow again. I haven't had much time with everything going on to put much effort into creating material, but I am getting that itch again and have so much I'd love to share with all of you! For the moment, I am hoping to post about 1-2 times per week -- so please stay tuned for some fresh, new, content coming your way!
