I was lucky enough to be one of those rare kids who had their own bathroom growing up. Because I primarily lived with my Dad after my parent's divorced, having my own space was essential during my pre-teen/teenage years when all I wanted was my privacy. Having my own bathroom gave me a safe place to explore new beauty products, to cry alone during period cramps, and also a place where I continuously burned my fingers while learning how to curl my hair. While I had my mom a short distance away to ask any questions about growing body parts and products, there were times I felt lost at home while living with my Dad who naturally didn't have the answers to certain questions (my poor dad, LOL).
*Side note: My Dad did take me to Macy's quite often to get tutorials at the Clinique makeup counter. (Cutest Dad, ever.)
During my middle, high school, and college years my bathroom beauty cabinet was an absolute disaster. I remember cleaning it out once in a blue moon until I did a thorough clean out before moving into Manhattan a couple of years ago. Now that I am crashing at my Dad's place again due to Covid-19, I have been able to start fresh with how I wanted to organize my products.
While I don't have the most fabulous products, I have what currently works best for me. I don't often buy many new things because if I end up not liking them I never want them to go to waste and overcrowd my shelves. I also try to stick with products that I know work best for me. I enjoy keeping my organization very simplistic.
